It is so difficult / expensive to get from Western Australia to the US and I can't get back to Europe for any of the dates there.

When will Mastodon come to Australia I wonder??

When??

Cheers,

Marcus.

BDO 2010. I swore i would never go again accept for tool, and i already did that, so i think i will rough it out and have to hear muse again, seriously why did they have to put muse on both tours for my favorite bands.

I'm pretty sure they'll announce a sideshow, so we won't have to go to the BDO.
At least that's what I'm hoping for...

For your sakes I hope so, there's not one band I like besides Mastodon.

Totally...and not being a fan of festivals I ain't paying $140 for half an hour of Mastodon. I'm pretty sure they will do a sideshow.

Fingers crossed that Baroness is doing a sideshow from the Soundwave fest, cause I'm not going to that either!

ahahah
well, it has some pertinence, i mean, mastodon's gonna play in aussie.
yeah, it's the wrong year, but the people who are looking in this thread would find the stuff in that other thread to be good news.
just trying to spread cheer, didn't mean to piss off the troll who lives under this thread (just messin)

I think what he meant was, the information in that link is kind of redundant, since we were already talking about the 2010 BDO. We know they're coming to Australia, but what we *really* want to know is, are they going to announce a sideshow, or will we have to fork out ~$140 to go to a festival, just to see one band.. (if that's the case, I doubt I will go. I really love Mastodon, but I hate the Big Day Out, so so much).

^ why do you hate it "so, so much"?

not sure how to feel about the lineup, a few OK artists are listed (notice how far down mastodon are?!), but the only real standouts for me are mastodon and muse (muse's theatrics and showmanship play a big part of that, the music is becoming increasingly meh). girltalk, the temper trap and a few others could be cute distractions to see

i'm confident in a sideshow, but i'm more concerned about the soundwave sideshows - might miss out on isis and baroness

anyway festivals are fairly gobshite, bring on the press passes pl0x (still don't know what the word is on the soundwave one)

What do you mean why does he hate it?

Its fucking terrible, The lineup is terrible, MUSE is terrible. There is no one else on that lineup that any self respecting Mastodon fan would go to see. To be honest if Mastodon should be playing any australian event, it should be headlining soundwave. Not half way down the list on the BDO. I personally will go if they dont do a sideshow, but i wont be happy about it (until after).

lulz

but no, what the fuck is this comment about the type of music "a self-respecting mastodon fan" would see?

the lineup isn't exactly terrible, it's a festival that does ok in catering to a variety of preferences, so you can't compare it to soundwave where you won't find anything but rock and metal (i suppose the music a "self-respecting" fan listens to). and mastodon headlining soundwave? negro please, i love them too, but not a chance in hell with faith no more, my chemical romance and jane's addiction on the same bill

First of all I dont expect them to headline this years soundwave, i was speaking in general. Soundwave seems to have the earlier BDO type setlists these days. 7 or 8 years ago the BDO setlists were amazing. Now every year they pick and choose 1 or 2 bands from EVERY (thats what it feels like) genre of music to try and please everyone. Now its just utter shit and every year theres ONE good band that you would like to see but have to ask yourself is it worth it. For Mastodon (and 2006, Tool) it is. The lineup is pretty horrid actually, some of those artists probably don't know what a musical instrument is...

I'll add my name to those hoping for a sideshow.

Chance of that in Perth though?

I would happily pay to go elsewhere in Australia just to get the full gig or two.

I went and got a BDO ticket, even though the lineup sucks. It was a nightmare trying to get one and the whole ticketing situation has already become notorious. I'm hoping for some sideshows so I can palm off by BDO ticket and see the 'Don in their own element without having to go through an entire expensive, exhausting, crowded day of it.

The question is, if I do end up selling my ticket would it be so wrong to put it on ebay and allow people to bid more than I paid for it? I mean its not like I bought it purely with the intention of selling it... or am I just as bad as the scalpers?
