I just read this rollingstone article from about a year ago and it states:

"The finished album will contain only seven songs, and, like previous Mastodon outings, will be a concept record. After past efforts focused on fire, water and earth, the new disc will explore air, ghosts and the ethereal world. The group has talked about eventually combining the releases into a box set called The Elements."

Could this be talking about the vinyl box set or will it be another different future release? It sounds pretty fuckin' sweet.
Here's the full article if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I can remember reading that same article when it first got released. I would love for the band to bring out the CD or vinyl box set of all their elemental albums. And include the ZZ Top cover of 'Just Got Paid'. Still missing that from my collection.

That would take a ton of planning and negotiating as to who put it out etc... as Relapse has the first 2 and WB the second 2.
Since there is the vinyl box set, I don't think another one would make any sense, and to put it on cd only is kind of lame since most of us have all the cd;s already.

I too am missing the ZZ Top song.

WB couldn't buy rights to the two earlier albums?

Speaking of elements, if remission is fire, leviathan is water, blood mountain is earth and crack the skye being ether, wouldn't call of the mastodon be wind? I mean, I remember the band talking about how CTS is the fifth element (hence the song Quintessence, meaning fifth classical element according to Wikipedia). So what the hell is going to be after this one?

They should call it Elementary Mastodon.

Then the next batch should be called Junior High Mastodon.

Then High Mastodon.

Then they should end their career by covering Kanye West's seminal album, College Dropout.

If Mastodon released another vinyl set that would be blasphemy, especially to the people who shelled out the $250 for the box set that's already out there. However if a CD set was released I would by the shit out of it.
