Maybe that guy is adapting Mastomusic for orchestra? That has always been the plan right?

i doubt very much that WB would allow the music to sit unheard. CTS has done extremely well, the band is obviously a pretty profitable investment, so it'd only make sense that their 'score' would be released along with the movie, probably one of those 'inspired by' soundtracks that every damn company puts out lately.

What really REALLY pisses me off about this is Mastodon took time away from their families to score that movie AND they got paid virtually NOTHING to do it How do you know what they got paid??? I have a few thoughts, first is who owns the music? If WB and Masto do then they should take advantage and release asap as a digital piece. If the Studio owns the music, it may never see the light of day. Sort of like you get paid to be in a film, and if your scene gets cut, you still get paid, but you don't own, the part you were in. Let's see what happens. |

Since this is a Warner Bros. film, I'm positive that WB owns the rights to the band's music for the film. Maybe they'll release it as like a complilation b-sides/raities album in the near future.

That's fucking lame. I was only considering seeing this movie to hear some Mastodon. I knew it wouldn't be a lot of Mastodon in the movie, but it totally would have made it more worth my while.

I think (if they have the rights to do so) they should just take the songs for the movie, give them lyrics and release them as some sort of original Western-themed concept album. That would rule.

I agree with itwasme.
Also, the article didn't say it wouldn't be used, they just said the audio director or something like that got changed. It didn't say "The movie people officially got rid of the Masto-idea". Just sayin'. |

But then you're going to get complaints, it's not as good as CTS, this is wjat the follow up the best record of 2009 with??? If it comes out it should be for the diehards, no press, no muss, no fuss. |

Well I'm already pretty convinced their next album is going to be complained about a lot. The only way to go is to get more progressive-y and alienate the original fans by further eliminating the heavy elements or to make it more heavy again and alienate the people who hopped on with CtS. Or they could make an album about par with CtS and get complaints on not evolving enough. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) You just can't please people. Or perhaps I'm just cynical. |

Good call. But thats the music industry for you. You just have to stay true to your own passions and try not to please people for the sake of it. Art's true beauty is in the eye, or indeed ear, of the beholder.

How do you know what they got paid??? Let's see what happens. I can try and find the link if I must. But Troy said it clear as day in an interview about it. He said that it was cool scoring the film because the director was really into Mastodon and it's wasn't one of those big money exchange type of deals. Troy said that they did it for very little compensation. For them it wasn't about the cash, it was about trying new things and growing as a band. |

Just found it: here Yes. Thank you. “As opposed to labels profiteering the situation, saying they’d give a band $500,000 to use some song, he called us out of the blue as a fan, It was the most beautiful, authentic way to collaborate.” “[The movie budget] covered our studio fees, but it was a break even deal. Malkovich, Brolin and Megan Fox all took pay cuts to be a part of this movie—that alone speaks volumes about how much people care about this film.” “I guarantee an incredibly popular misconception will be, ‘Oh my god, they’re selling out doing a fucking comic-book movie. They probably got a huge paycheck and don’t give a shit about integrity. -Troy Sanders |

I stand corrected. In that case since the compensation was so little maybe they will be able to use the music if they want.
I'd love to hear it, but who knows? |

Hold on everybody, nobody has said anything to us about our contribution to the score not being used.
They just switched composers. As far as we know, the plan is still the same. Whatever they don't use, we will incorporate into the next album whenever we start writing again. |
