We have have that band that we love but are ashamed to listen to in front of our friends.
Name them here. There will be no shit talking about the band someone chooses to listen to. Unless said band is so gay that something needs to be said.
Here's mine
Ghostland Observatory
www.myspace.com/ghostlandobservatory
Norma Jean even though they stole the Botch sound, they have some good jams.
Circa Survive- I know they're a chick band, but damn they have some catchy shit.
I hope ya'll still see me the same way now.

I love The Offspring, Green Day (old), Less Than Jake, Weezer, Biffy Clyro, probably loads of other stuff as well.

Pah, call those guilty pleasures?
Check this lot out
Sugababes - proper pop music and no mistake
Erasure -as above. I'm not gay, honest
Duran Duran - gods amongst men
Queen - have loved them all my musical life
Depeche Mode - got into industrial via a mate who was into this lot
The Cure - used to be borderline obsessive about 16 years ago, have recently rediscovered them
Oasis - used to hate them, but have developed a grudging respect for them
Bon Jovi - if you’re drunk, and Living on A Prayer is played loud and it doesn’t move you, you are dead inside
And many more…I'm not embarassed at all

You win. Or lose, depending on how you look at it.
Especially with Papa Roach, a miserable excuse for a band.

Chevelle by far. One of my closest friends, an old college buddy was/is pretty into them, and somehow I still listen to them. I know they're shitty radio rock but I can't help myself. For radio rock they play some pretty kickin' tunes.

Chevelle? Never heard of them.
Oh, and talking of shitty radio rock, I'll add
Counting Crows - First album whatever it was called
Live - first album. Pearl Jam rip offs, but I fell for it
Paul Simon - Graceland
Throwing Copper was one of the first CDs I ever owned, and holds a special place in my black heart.

Hear, hear
I don't think I generally listen to bands anyone on this board would frown upon, but when it comes to seeing bands live at festivals I can think of a few I wouldn't want to miss:
- Linkin Park
- Good Charlotte
- The Hives (although I think their music rocks)
- Eagles of Death Metal (same as the Hives)
- Slipknot
- Papa Roach (and Infest rox)
I'm not ashamed of going to see any of them as they are good live bands (except for Good Charlotte but hey it's fun hanging around 14-year-old goths).

Millencolin - all of my buddies slag me for listening to them. Their new stuff is pretty weak though.
Dillinger
Jun 12 2008, 07:34 PM
yep.
Linkin Park are studio perfect live.
MCR are not, while I love their music and Frank 'The sex' Iero , live they are abyssmal.
However further to our earlier convo Matt, I think Human Waste' have probably a lot more cool points than everything else mentioned and don't think they should be on the list.
However, I'm not from your part of the world so IDK how thats going down?
The stuff I actually get laughed at for at work =
Roxy Music (the later stuff that Housewives love)
and Billy Joel.

Eagles of Death Metal a guilty pleasure band? Pfft I crank that shit way up and dance to it. I am never ashamed of listening to different music...even if it is "mainstream." I listen to ABBA to Hanson.

I want to hurt myself for liking Jordin Sparkss / Chris Brown's "No Air". Can't help it.
Slipknot would be a decent band if they dropped the gimmick, extra twenty guys in the band they don't need, and their shitty fanbase. They've actually got some really talented guys in the band.

Actually I agree, I've found myself quite liking some of their stuff but all the 'maggot' business is *yawn*
And blokey has got a really good voice. In fact add Stone Sour to the list.

Trivium was my first heavy band that i actually listened to so from there i just grew and branched out to good types of metal, instead of just sticking with metalcore. I still listen to them every now and then but they get ripped a new asshole every time they're mentioned anywhere so shhhhh.

My "guess" is that everyone who's into metal started out that way. Commercial bands lead to more and more obscure ones. 8)

Nelly Furtado

Not specifically AJFA, but Metallica in general got me into metal.

Jun 15 2008, 04:36 AM
What's metalcore? I have heard even Mastodon being called that. I think most "metalcore" bands would have being called thrash(by the way, a heavy metal/hardcore crossover, as far as I remember) in the 80's.

The guitarist is genuinely cool.
The rest of the band go fuck itself up it own arse, changing their own opinion of themselves and insulting their own music to distance themselves from it. SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU MAKE MY SKIN CRAWL.
The music isn't bad, just really unoriginal.

Norah Jones and J.E.W. are a couple of my guilty pleasures. I'd say some of the worst for me are movie soundtracks (LotR, Nightmare B4 Xmas, Phantom of the Opera (Broadway), Aladdin, Little Mermaid (go ahead and laugh. I grew up on that shit so whatever), and FF7: Advent Children). I also dig some Billy Joel from time to time. And bluegrass, which is like acoustic metal with all that fast picking.

Also, I actually like American Idiot
It's so damn catchy.
Bluegrass is kickass, but then again, I live in Texas. But if most of thise bluegrass banjo and guitarist picked up an electric guitar with distortion, they would rock ass.
And Willie Nelson is nothing to be ashamed of.

Hmmm, I went through a big chunk of the nineties not being into metal really. But my early music history went something like….
Aged 8-10 ish: Queen, Ultravox, Beatles, Duran Duran
Aged 11/12: AC/DC, Motorhead, Maiden, Saxon, Scorpions, Led Zep, Whitesnake (!), Van Halen
13-18: The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, Dead Kennedys, King Kurt, New Order, The Mission, The Cramps, Bowie, The The
19-25: Ministry, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, Lemonheads, Nitzer Ebb, Orbital, Husker Du, Faith No More, RATM, Soundgarden, Janes Addiction, Fugazi
25-30: Nofx, Rancid, QOTSA, Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Beastie Boys, SOAD, Supersuckers, Prodigy, Killing Joke
And then got massively back into metal after seeing Maiden when Bruce rejoined, and now I'm much more metal than I've ever been
