FUCK YEAH. Wolves again! I can't get enough of these guys, and this will make up for not being able to get inside for their set at the Scion Fest. I must have seen these guys a dozen times over the past five years, and it never gets old. I'm looking forward to Tombs as well, and we'll see about sticking around to watch Pelican. My wife doesn't want to, I'm down for a few songs at least, and maybe the whole set if they are killin' it. But that drummer is rough and I've seen Pelican half a dozen times at least, and that DID get old. I don't know if I can watch the Wolves drummer and then the Pelican drummer afterwords.

Well, I'm looking forward to it, and I'll be back with a review in a few hours. Just gotta get good and baked before heading out the door.

Oh, and I went to download the new Wolves EP so I can hear he new songs before the show (and yes, i'll be buying the EP at the show tonight), and lo and behold the new album leaked! I'm listening to it now! Fuck yeah new Wolves!

Peeping Tom
I'll be seein' them (WITTR) at the Roadburn festival in a couple of weeks for the first time and judging by your excitement I'll be in for a real treat !!

Stick around for Pelican, mainly because they slay live. You're a lucky bastard, Wolves, Tombs and Pelican all in one night....you better be recording this...

I've seen Pelican several times, and they certainly do not "slay" live. I like everything before City Of Echoes though, so I'll stick around and watch them for a bit, and maybe even the whole set if the wife is having fun.

Ah, well I saw them with Kayo Dot and they were awesome, there was a great deal of energy (plus Trevor also signed my Austrailasia LP). I like all their material though, but yeah Wolves merits the show alone. I'm curious about how tombs is live though.

Tombs were pretty good, though throughout their set I found myself wishing they had a second guitar player. I think they could have used a little more muscle to go along with the super-fuzzy riffs. The songs killed and they otherwise sounded great. The club was pretty full, and lots of people were watching them.

Wolves In The Throne Room played a short, half hour set. They sounded great and were pretty solid. 2 songs.

I stuck around and watched just about all of Pelican, except the last song because I had to catch the train home and my wife was gonna kill me by that point. She hated them. She hated me even more for liking them. They played a bunch of new songs which sounded great, and they even did an Earth cover. Lots of energy as usual, too.

So I bought the Wolves EP, as well as their new CD that comes out Tuesday, and a live LP from Roadburn (comes with a DVD, fuck yeah)

Good show, good show. Except one really lame thing. The club, Slim's, has been under attack by a new neighbor that insist on calling the cops on the club all the time. This person moved into the area recently knowing the club was there for 20 years, but thisw person is determined to shut the place down. So the club has been keeping the volume LOW, way way way low. Everybody sounded weaker because of it. Lame.

That's awesome, I wish they could announce some Scandinavian gigs with that line-up.

That had to have been good. I love me some Pelican. I'm really pumped for the new album they have, Dylan Carlson is going to be on it. Also Hash do you have any Pelican bootlegs? You've inspired me to start filming concerts (just did The Yellow Sign and Dagon last week) and I'm trying to build up a decent collection. Any tips?

Pelican's new stuff sounds great, I'm impressed again. And they played the songs off City Of Echoes that I like, and even Australasia too!

Here's the Pelican setlist, minus the last song because I had to go.

Bliss In Concrete
new song
Ephameral
Far From Fields
new song
Geometry Of Murder (Earth cover)
Australasia
? I had to split to catch the train

Yeah, I have Pelican bootlegs. Lots of audio mostly, there is a bunch of video out there, I know, but I don't have much of it. I do know someone who does though. I did shoot them with 3 cameras back in 2005, here's a song from it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsNLlNgW7yU

I also recorded last night's show, audio only though. It didn't come out very good, but I wasn't trying very hard. It came out good enough to listen to though, I'm probably gonna post that Earth cover.

As far as recommendations for recording shows? Never record over your masters, buy an external mic for your camera, never use the effects, keep your shit steady, and observe the rule of thirds when framing your shots.

(read about the rule of thirds HERE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds)

Also, know and respect the rules of the venue and people around you trying to see the show. And try hitting up the bands via myspace to get their ok, many bands will appreciate it, especially if you can send them a copy afterwords.

Good luck! I started out small, just taping my friends bands back home in Rochester back in 1995. I started taping the few touring bands we could get through, and started snail mail trading VHS dubs, and years later the collection has become rather incredible. It's turning into a library.

Fuck yeah, get those and you'll have a couple nice ones to start trading with. Another good way to build up your collection is buy having an account at dimeadozen if you don't already. Keep an eye on that site, lots of stuff gets posted every day and it's easy to miss things, I've found some killer shows on that site (and torrented plenty, too)

Alright, if it turns out good I'll probably upload them somewhere
