Because I really love you, I'ld buy you a DNA groove or a Jump The Gun shirt because Ben Sherman stopped making decent shirts about 20 years ago.
And Yalo, I'm really sorry to hear that.

even though i've read very little marvel stuff in my life, i enjoy a lot of the characters in that universe, particularly the x-men related peeps. i'm still gutted about how they butchered the wolverine movie, when there was such awesome potential. if the whole movie had been like this, it would have been great
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCaJcW3gvPU that said i don't think it's very rewarding to read marvel, they have like 3 major alternate universes for a few of their publications, and then dozens of spins offs. and the continuity gets fucked over all the time
i much prefer limited series like watchmen or Y:the last man where you have a nice self-contained story. however, i'm starting to collect a few batman stories, like the dark knight returns and the long halloween, i've got a few of them in my sights
finally, i don't like the bashing that comics get. sure they have pictures, but they are their own unique medium, the real problem is that too much trash gets published and sells well. that said i'm still reluctant to read a comic in public, ayeeeee

I dont bother reading the Ultimate universe. That simplifies things for me .
When Uncanny and the other team took a drop in story telling, it happens with any comic thats a million years old, Joss whedons Astonishing title was (and still is) more than making up for it. But Now X-men is on a roll again and the whole
Dark X-Men , Dark Avengers stuff is killer.
Norman Osborn = Iron Patriot (Capt America/Iron Man)
Daken (wolverines son) = Wolverine
Venom = Spiderman
Bullseye = Hawkeye

I pretty much dig anything by Garth Ennis, preferably illustrated by Steve Dillon, working my way through his work on The Punisher at the moment. recently read the first two volumes of the new Coheed and Cambria comics, but they're a bit sucky, they just skim along the story and occasionally quote a line from one of the songs.

i have the first few "punisher warzone" (original series), alot of old Conans from the 70's/80's. my 2 most treaured comisc are "the crow" and "batman vs judge dredd: judgement on gotham".

^this, it was the first "mature" comic i ever read, after having only read X-men up til that point. Everything else i've read is great, but it never quite lives up to Preacher. It's a bit shit that they canned the HBO series idea and went back to making a film of it, it's guaranteed to be wank.

It was a comic book .
Back in my day before all the nonners started reading things like this (No Offenc* Johnny boy) a graphic novel was a standalone story that was outside the realms of the comic book title slightly edgier and never before told in comic book form.
Eg - my 1st was X-Men - God Loves man Kills , which had all above elements and came out in 83 I think? And so
anything like Preacher or Watchmen to us, is or was a compendium or a bunch of TPB's.
*No Offenc , * Nonse-ense phil collins etc.
Preacher is great but so is The Dark Knight returns and Maus, Watchmen, WE3 , lOVE and Bullets too but
Preacher just has a shit load more Volumes PLUS artwork by 2000AD veterans Steve 'I draw Everyone's face the same' Dillon and Carlos Ezquerra, the latter who is doing the latest issues of THE BOYs and so great to see his distinctive style unchanged since Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd.

Kind of comic book related. My friend Tony just nabbed me this sweet mug for my birthday. Though the bummer is that all the pictures on it are painted using lead based paint so it looks like I can't slobber all over Hellboy.... 'tis rather sad.

Back in the day I loved the likes of Ezquerra, Kev O'Neill (I think that was him name; he did Nemesis), Brian Bolland, and all the 2000AD mob, but above all I wanted to be Glenn Fabry; in particularly I loved the way he drew Slaine.
I haven't bought any comics/graphic novels written after Sandman which changed my life(GingerN, you must read these!), but I read and loved Preacher and read a few of the Waking Dead books which were pretty good.
The major ones I've enjoyed are the big popular ones such as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Dark Night Returns, Year One, Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum, Hellblazer, then 2000AD from the late 80s to mid 90s.

Me too, I was always Gutted when reading Slaine and Fabry's run would finish and some very weird artist (who admittedley had his own off-key style) would take over.
I picked up some 2000AD about 4 years ago and Slaine had this amazing photoshopped artwork in, real faces/eyes made it very creepy.

I prefered Bisley when he did the ABC Warriors tbh, Fabry was always the main man when Slaine was concerned in my opinion, the high point possibly being the time warrior thing when he was with Myrddin, Nest and so on. There was an embarassing moment after the Horned God when Fabry felt he had to 'out Bisley' Bisley, if you see what I mean.

Yea, I know. It sucks.
I don't know if this will actually happen, but I have a sneaking suspicion that in 10 years time Marvel will no longer produce comics because of Disney. I mean, basically, all Disney wants are the rights to the characters so they can make movies. Disney really doesn't give a shit about the comics. The comic industry unfortunately is a dying industry. If Disney loses any money from the lack of comic sales they could easily scrap the whole comic producing thing and put beloved comic book characters in child friendly computer animated movies.
Worst case scenario^^^
I doubt it will happen, but the possibility does concern me.

Disney hardly stands for anything anymore, they bought Pixar because they were literally their last hope, and Pixar makes almost all their films now. If anything, Disney have found their comeback in Pixar, they're back making modern animation masterpieces just like they were with films like Beauty and the Beast and Lion King in the 90s. If Pixar can channel their animation techniques into making darker, more adult oriented films (which they're clearly capable of doing) they could make some very interesting comic book adaptation movies, or at least shake up the genre that's getting a little stale now.
