Excited from Mastodon/Dethklok OCT 4th in Vancouver.
I'm really curious to see what songs they'll play now that the CTS tour will be done. I don't see them playing CTS in its entirety. Hoping for a mix of 1/3 Levaithan, 1/3 Blood Mountain and 1/3 CTS. March of the fire ants to start.
One can hope.
This post inspired me to start another one of these topics. What do you think they'll actually play vs what would you LIKE them to play. These things do get a bit blown out, so keep it to what they actually have played in the past. Songs like "Linoleum Knife / Orion / Just Got Paid" or any of the Joseph Merrick songs were never a part of their live set at any point. I think these sort of posts are cool if we keep it realistic because it can be a good indication for the band as to what we, the fans, would like to see, vs just what they THINK we want to see. For example, Ol Nessie was never played past 2003 (except maybe once or twice) because Brent felt that the crowd wouldn't sit through a "slow" song like that.
Here's what I expect will be played:
Oblivion
Divinations
Quintessence
The Czar
Ghost Of Karelia
Crack The Skye
The Last Baron
Bladecatcher
Colony Of Birchmen
The Wolf Is Loose
Crystal Skull
Capillarian Crest
Megalodon
Seabeast
Iron Tusk
March Of The Fire Ants
Personally I'd love to see them play an entirely different set, and I'd love to see Ol Nessie / Trainwreck / Trilobite / Mother Puncher or really any Remission tunes besides Fire Ants, and I'd love to see Island and Ahab played again from Leviathan. I'd also like to see Hunter In The Sky, which I don't think has been played live yet at all.
Really I think they'll just play the same CTS set, because that's how the band has done it in the past. Until a new album comes out, the set generally stays exactly the same unless they are doing a short festival set. I doubt they are going to learn a drastically new set in the month they have off, but a few variations would be cool.
You know Brann reads the board from time to time, so let him know what you'd like to see!

Of course, this is moot for me since they aren't coming back to the bay area on this upcoming tour. So I hope they don't change the set at all. I don't want to miss something kick ass being played again.

I'd also love to see Shadows That Move brought back. I'll probably shit if they started playing that again.

This is going to be my first time seeing Mastodon live man and I hope they don't forget about Remission on this tour. I wish the set would look like this:
Oblivion
Divinations
Quintessence
The Czar
Ghost Of Karelia
Crack The Skye
The Last Baron
Ol'e Nessie
Mother Puncher
Where Strides the Behemoth
Megalodon
Crystal Skull
Sleeping Giant
This Mortal Soil
Hearts Alive
I know its a lot, but damn. I'd kill to see that set.
HASHTHRASH
Sep 4 2009, 01:08 AM
Yeah, This Mortal Soil should get played more often, too.

Yeah man. I hope to see it happen. Also, The Bit.

I know they've played Blood And Thunder to death but i'd love to hear it live (for the first time).

When they come to play in my basement next week, that's the setlist I hope to hear:
Hunters of the Sky
Circle of Cysquatch
This Mortal Soil
Trainwreck
Ghost of Karelia
Hearts Alive
O'le Nessie
Battle at Sea
Elephant Man
Naked Burn
Hand of Stone
Trilobite
I am Ahab
Siberian Divide
Or else I'll be very disappointed.

Siberian Divide would floor me.
Good point about them re-learning songs to a 'tee'
I'd be happy with a CTS based setlist.
THE REAL QUESTION THATS BEN PLAGUING ME.....
WHO HAS THE FINAL SET?
I've talked to a couple dethklok fans that said no way Mastodon is last. Something about Adult Swim's tie to dethklok? I dunno. If Mastodon isn't last it'd be a travesty.

I'd guess that Dethklok is the last band of the night

I'm hoping Dethlock is last so I'm not forced to sit through them, I got places to be after the concert.
I wouldn't mind a heavy dose of CTS again (saw them in portland last time through for CTS), but to me Blood Mountain material sounds so much better live that I find myself looking forward to it a bit more. I've seen Hearts Alive a few times now so I wouldn't mind if they fill that gap with some other Leviathan/Remission stuff.

Any remission stuff would be killer. Also, a fair dose of Blood Mountain.
TBH they can play any song from their discog and I will be happy.

Hearts Alive
Linoleum Knife
Hearts Alive
The Last Baron
March of the Fire Ants
Crusher Destroyer
Trilobite
Megalodon
encore:
Hearts Alive

Sep 4 2009, 05:07 AM
it would be pretty annoying if they played the exact same set as the previous tour. sitting through the entire CTS album was too long, too many solos/noodley sections. it was tiring. i'd like to see them play a healthy mix of all the albums, 2 or 3 from CTS, 4-5 from Leviathan, 4-5 Remission, and 3-4 from Blood Mountain.

I really hope they pull out some old gems like Crusher Destroyer and Mother Puncher.
Remission is far from my favourite album but I'd love to hear some more tracks off it.
And Hearts Alive, just start with Hearts Alive. It's such an epic opening song.

Idea;
instead of everyone blurting out wishful thinkings and hoping brann notices it, how about this;
beyond CTS which they will prolly play in its entirety or close to it atleast, how about we try and compile a list of 5 more songs we would like to hear them play. If everyone submits their 5-song-wishlist we can then compile the 5 most commonly wished for songs and make a wishlist that democratically and somewhat accurately represent the mastodonboards most craved for songs.
Hashthrash could then, as a liaison for the community, most humbly and ceremonially mention this list to Brann whenever you get in touch with him next.
If they're interested in our opinion maybe they'll consider adding one or two of the tracks and all is well.
If they on the other hand feel offended by our forward attitude and feel cornered by rabid fans, they can choose to urinate on the list or devour it as a side-dish at the next fondue-party whilst chuckling hardily at our sad request and furthermore blame Hash and never speak to him again.

I find that a very good idea.
My five would be:

If Hash agrees to do this then perhaps we should make a new thread about it and perhaps put a deadline on it? One week from now would be more than enough time to mastermind ones own wet dream.
I will volunteer for the compiling-duty.

Just they've gotta prioritise newer fans/first time listeners, epecially w/ a band like dethklok, so i doubt this grand scheme will amount to much.
Regardless:
Workhorse
Aqua Dementia
Mortal Soil
Circle of Cysquatch
Crack The Skye
Orthrus

I am Mastodons biggest fan I hope they play Blood and Thunder, Iron Tusk, Sleeping Giant and Oblivion.

From CotM:
-Shadows That Move
-Battle At Sea
-Slick Leg
-Call of the Mastodon
From Remission:
-Workhorse
-Trainwreck
-Trilobite
-Mother Puncher
From Leviathan:
-I Am Ahab
-Island
From Blood Mountain:
-Sleeping Giant
-This Mortal Soil
-Siberian Divide
There are plenty of others, of course, but here I just picked from the ones I don't expect them to play. For example, I'd love to see Megalodon or March of the Fire Ants, but I'm pretty sure those are a given (just like pretty much all of CtS).

I'm hoping they play CtS again for this tour because I couldn't see them last time.
Other than that I'm hoping for Remission / Leviathan era songs.
Whatever they decide will be incredible though, I'm sure.
Actually I might be looking forward to hearing the new HoF shit a little more than seeing Mastodon for this tour.

Aww, shit! If HoF play new material during the shows, they'll have to be scraping the bits of my exploded brain off the fucking ceiling. This tour is going to be too kickass.

I'm sure they'll be playing new stuff. They played it at the shows they did in August. And by the time the tour starts they'll have already recorded the new album.
