when the Holy Wars have seen all published literature burned to a cinder and rolling stone and other such publications begin anew with their '100 greatest guitarists of all time' lists, think we'll see brent (+ billy?) make said lists?
what i mean to say is, right now we look back at page, hendrix, clapton, may, etc, will the critics and the public look back on hinds (+kelliher?) in a similar light in fourscore years? and when i say the public, i don't mean plumber joe, but those a bit more clued up than the average bear - maybe like the kids who argue on youtube about what genre meshuggah and opeth are, and whether joe satriani and steve vai could hold off 300 spartans
also, if someone could help me with this, because i couldn't find it in search. there was a thread a while back about some magazine's top 25 metal albums since 2000, or 1990, or something like that, and mastodon had 2-3 entries in the list. can ye linky link me to the thread pl0x?

thanks, shitty list, but i was trying to find the name of a band (nachtmystium) and all that was coming to mind was necrophagist. i could remember that album's artwork as well, the skeleton with the hair, so then i thought "hmm skeletonwitch?", but alas i knew that was wrong
but anyway, brent "billy bob" hinds?

Well the original RS list is shit anyways. They list both Kurt Cobain and Jack White higher than motherfucking Eddie Van Fucking Halen! Even so, I'd hope to see them recognized as great guitarists years from now. We really don't have too many candidates nowadays. Everyone seems really repetitive and derivative--there are few who are new and vibrant. I'd say Mr. Hinds' chicken-picking proggy madness qualifies him to be added to the canon of musical history.

LOL Kurt Cobain. Any best guitarist list containing him is pathetic.

oh no doubt it was horribly flawed.
amongst other things it was devoid of john petrucci, steve vai, joe satriani and dave mustaine, kirk hammett was at #12 even though hetfield writes most of the stuff and hammett just taps and wahs over it (so they could have at least been partnered like the next bad entry), and for some reason ed o'brein and jonny greenwood were on the list (while we all love radiohead, the band isn't guitar driven, they're a gestalt! kid A didn't even have guitars)...and the problems go on
but it was just a well known example really. these kids from a band called crooked x might one day achieved guitar god status. as far as 14 year olds go, i'm impressed

a top 100 list without any of those four? oh negro, you best be trolling
but, i digress, this shouldn't be a debate about the best guitarists around because there's another thread about that in the music section.
will brent, based on his career so far and whatever educated guesses we can make about its future, be regarded as one of the greats? y/n?

I have always found that my fave guitar players are the ones that add to the music, with ou saying LOOK AT ME! I can play the GEEEEETAR. But generally they are overlooked, so I don't think they would make the list, but thats not because they don't deserve it.

As long as a list has Jeff Hanneman higher than Kerry King, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett I'm fine with it.
