Um, I haven't bought much this year. Bands that come to mind, Mono, Jesu, Dalek, Sunn, YOB, Om.

the overwhelming majority of cds listed in this thread are very clearly metal acts. without wasting my time doing an actual tally, i'd guess it's over 80% in favor of metal versus any other genre.

despite earlier numbskullery, i'm with you on this one sailor. fight the good fight

metal and rock are easily my favourite genres, and whilst i listen to them predominantly, here are a few off the top of my head:
